Stair Pressurisation Systems

Protect safe evacuation with stair pressurisation solutions
In a fire emergency, stairwells are critical for safe evacuation. Stair pressurisation systems maintain positive air pressure to keep smoke out, giving occupants more time to exit safely.
At Coral Fire, we install and maintain stairwell pressurisation systems in accordance with strict compliance standards, so when it matters most, your systems are ready to perform.
How it works
Fire alarm is triggered
The system activates automatically during a fire event.
Fans begin to pressurise the stairwell
Air is pumped into the stairwell to create higher pressure inside.
Pressure prevents smoke entry
The higher pressure blocks smoke from entering through door gaps.
Doors remain operable
Pressures are balanced to allow doors to open without excessive force.
Safe evacuation is maintained
Clear, smoke-free stairwells provide a safe path for building occupants.

Why it matters
Code Requirement
Required under the Building Code of Australia (Smoke Hazard Management, clause E2)
compliance

Smoke prevention
Prevent smoke from entering stairwells during a fire and occupants are required to evacuate the building
safety
Ensures safe evacuation for occupants
pressure control
Involves correct air pressures, air change rates, and door pull forces
